BCOOTD: Print Mixing

Print mixing is my thing lately. I enjoy mixing and matching prints to add more interest in my outfits. Here are a few tips on print matching, to get you started, that work for me.

Tip 1:

Pair different prints that are in the same color family or the color complements to each other. Note: A color wheel comes in handy for pairing complementary colors.

Tip 2:

Select prints that are different sizes. Focus especially on the ratio between the print's size and the amount of background left behind the print.  Perfect example here

Tip 3:

Always keep something solid.  Accessories, such as your handbag or shoes, are usually the perfect solid piece in heavy print mixed look.  Also, a solid colored piece of clothing in a patterned fabric, for example my solid navy lace shirt in this look, is a great way to balance out an outfit with several patterns in it.

These print matching tips are a few to get you going in print mixing your wardrobe.  Give it try if you haven't already.  It's such an easy and classy way to spice up your look, especially in a dress code enforced situation.
